Coombs Bluegrass Festival

Come with me to the 33rd Coombs Bluegrass festival.

My husband is busy setting up camp -- while I run crazy with the camera.

He's such a tolerate man.

Please take a sit in our living room. We just bought -- at a mall, on your way to Coombs. It's so easy to set up -- you just have to stand back and it does all the rest. In fact, you know, I set it up. Hurray me. : )

After a nice chin wag, we make our way to the stage on the Coombs rodeo grounds. The music has already started but don't worry -- we're not late. The music will go strong all weekend.

The featured bands are...

Mark Phillips & 3rd Generation -- Norman, Oklahoma

Mark Phillips rhythm guitar and vocals, Roger Starnes banjo, Kendall Murphy bass, Daniel Foulkes fiddle, Michael Morrison flatpicking guitar, Bridget Starnes sales manager.

Special Consesus -- Chicago, Illinois

Greg Cahill, banjo & vocals, Dustin Benson, guitar & vocals, Rick Feris, mandolin & vocals, David Thomas, bass & vocals

Riverside -- Victoria, B. C.

Eric Adams bas & vocals, Angus MacKenzie guitar & vocals, Mike Kraft banjo & vocals, Paul Lang mandolin & harmony, Larry Stevens dobro leads & harmony

Corner Grass -- Sidney by the Sea, B. C.

Clarence Boudreau guitar, leads and harmony, Luann Burton bass, leads & harmony, Jim Salish, fiddle leads & harmony

The Sweet Lowdown -- Victoria, B.C.

Shanti Brener banjo & vocals, Miriam Sonstenes fiddle & vocals, Amanda Biled guitar & vocals

Top Secret Bluegrass Band -- Calgary, Alberta

Steve Caswell banjo & vocals, Jackie Caswell bass & vocals, Morgan Caswell guitar & vocals, Andrew Caswell fiddle & vocals

HighRise Lonesome -- Vancouver, B. C.

Sue Malcolm guitar, banjo & vocals, Stu McDonald bass & vocals, Jay Buckwold banjo & vocals, Don Fraser dobro, guitar & vocals, Vic Smyth mandolin & vocals

Bluegrass Fever -- Chemainus, B.C.

Bob Johns guitar & vocals, Barrie Hemmings banjo, Kim Turner mandolin, Guy Langois bass

Branch 11, Old Time Fiddlers -- Coombs, B.C.

Back Porch Banjo -- Qualicum, B. C.

Bob Slater guitar & vocals, Kazimea Sokil clawhammer banjo, mandolin, guitar & vocals, Linda Thorburn banjo, Earl Purvis bass & vocals

The sound man surveys from his booth.

This couple were the first to dance, but they weren't the last.

Friday night ends with a sweet, lonesome sound.

It's Saturday and The Sweet Lowdown is on stage.

After two days of music, everyone wants to dance. En mass the whole audience does just that as Mark Phillips & 3rd Generation play. Eager to please they play way past their 45 minute set. In fact, they keep playing until the police show up. Ooops...

There was good food and shopping. The Body Tree booth offered beautiful dresses, pants, tops and more.

Oh, yes, I did find something.

How did you know?

You can find something too.

The Body Shop will be at the Coombs Fair.

: ) Thank you for joining me, Laurie. Yes, it truly is love and it was so affordable twenty-five dollars (Canadian). I love it when I go shopping and find a deal like that.
